2004
The off-season has been busy as we winterized all of our boats, trailers and skis. We have weekly winter practices from mid January through the end of April. During February, we held our indoor practices at the new National Railroad Museum in Ashwaubenon. In January, March & April we practice in the gym at Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay. Our fourth annual snow skiing trip took us to Marquette, Michigan over New Year's Eve. In December, we had members ringing the bell for Salvation Army in downtown Appleton, which included interviews and coverage by a local TV station. Briana Johnson and Paige Wade water skied at the Winter Waterland, January 10th on the Rock River. At Think Tank in Oconomowoc during March, we had 14 member families attending. We look forward to the challenge in 2004 as we return to Division I for the first time since 2000.
Bungle in the Jungle was our theme for 2004 in a year that started with ironically, too much water! Record spring rains during May and June caused the Fox River to overflow its banks, and the high water and severe current made it impossible to ski at our site in Wrightstown. Thanks to the cooperation of St. Norbert's College, we were able to practice on a limited basis at their site in DePere. With a very little preparation, we took our show to the State Tournament and placed 6th in Division One, after competing for the past four years in Division Two. Ashley Anderson placed 7th in the swivel competition and the young team of Jesse Schutte & Shelby Wedige placed 8th in the doubles competition. Crazy Keith and the human caterpillar won the Best Comedy Act. We took our show on the road to perform at Faith on Fire in Oshkosh, Shopko Fireworks Celebrate Americafest in Green Bay, Lakeshore Weekend for Kids in Manitowoc and MarinaFest in Sister Bay. We also skied a show in late September as part of the first annual Taste of Wrightstown, which included cardboard boat races at our site.
Our year-end Awards Banquet was well attended with over 50 members present, and included several spirited games of Dodgeball.
2005
Our theme for 2005 was WILD WILD WEST, and we had another exciting year of show skiing. The year started off with indoor practices from January through April. It was the first year with our new equipment trailer, thanks to the help we received from Stock’s Harley Davidson, Krueger Sentry Gauge and Maki Sign Corporation. Our road trips took us to downtown Green Bay for Shopko Fireworks Celebrate Americafest, Lakeshore Weekend for Kids in Manitowoc and MarinaFest in Sister Bay. At the Wisconsin State Show Ski Tournament in Wisconsin Rapids, we placed 5th place in Division 1, where Ashley Anderson placed 7th in the Individual Swivel Ski Competition. As part of the Wrightstown Business Alliance, we proudly participated in their Taste of Wrightstown, which raised over $23,000 for the American Red Cross Katrina Hurricane Relief Fund. Our year-end Awards Banquet was held at the Beaver’s Hut in Freedom, and included games of Volleyball and Dodgeball. |
